Motylki började som en duo, förpuppades och är nu en trio. Bandet är förenat igenom utbrändhet, separation och förlust, hanterar följande turbulens genom 90-talets altrock, punk och noise som känns nostalgiskt och fräscht på samma gång. Bandnamnet, som kommer från slaviska språk för fjärilar gav genklang hos bandet eftersom det kan orsaka en pirrande känsla i magen, som kan vara svår att skilja mellan ångest och kärlek.
Som ofta existerar inte ett tillstånd isolerat utan har ofta en tvetydig kvalitet som bandet dissekerar och drar isär. Teman om dualiteter och ens spröda tillvaro utforskas ofta i Motylkis musikaliska sammanhang. Motylki består av Anti Zurowski (Nova Blast, Happy Hour), Tess de la Cour (Snake, Memoria) och Markus Tiedemann. De bildades ur deras gemensamma kärlek för dist, fuzz och glitter. Musiken de skapar grundar sig i grunge/punk som möter noise.
